The coup of 1934 led to all Baltic Germans leaving Latvia. Ulmanis did not support the Nazi’s; Germans and Soviets were unwelcome just as well. “Latvia is for Latvians” was the slogan of the time. Latvians were forced to fight for both sides during occupation, respectively.
